Associate Degree Programs in Computer Information Technology
Studying for an associate degree in information technology will give you a better understanding about how computing and information systems support communication, research and business needs. You will learn how software, hardware, applications, networks and systems fit into the integrated infrastructure of any business. The degree is structured to fit into specific areas of information technology by taking courses that strengthen your knowledge in particular areas.

Although every college titles their courses differently, you will take courses for Business System Programming, Client Server Technologies and Applications, Computer and Network Forensics, Computer Architecture and Data Modeling and Applications. You will also take course in Database Management Systems, Mathematics, E-Business and E-Commerce, Electronic Devices and Circuits, Computer interaction and Computer Security.
Other courses required are Telecommunication Networks and Applications, Systems Analysis and Design, Project Management and Networking Protocols and Architecture. Introduction to Psychology and Sociology and Written Communications are also required courses.
Database Management Systems prepares the student for an understanding in data models and how to apply normalization, security and integrity to a database. The student also learns about the principles of information systems security.
The student can structure the associate degree to a specific area of information technology such as computer science, database technology, Technology Project management and Network Administrator and Security. Although different colleges include some of these specific courses in the associate degree, some colleges require you to choose a specific field.
Careers in Information Technology
After obtaining your associate degree, you will be able to apply for a position as a network systems and data communication analyst, database administrator, computer systems analyst, computer applications software engineer or a computer systems software engineer.
The job outlook for someone that earns an associate degree in information technology is high. There are many fields and positions that one can work in after earning this degree. It is possible to further ones education in technology by adding two more years to their schedule and obtaining a bachelors degree in information technology.
