Associate Degree in Computer Information Systems
The Associate degree in Computer Information Systems prepares you for a career in large or small businesses as a computer programmer working behind the scenes that keep a company running. You will be able to build, design and implement software solutions. The IT Professional can work in various fields of computer science after completing this degree.

The Associate degree in Computer Information Systems will teach you how to build websites, administer databases, troubleshoot hardware and software problems as well as maintain and install computer networks. This IT career does require taking additional courses throughout your career to stay up to date with all the new and changing technology. This is important for every computer technician.

The student also learns how to manage network security that is important to businesses. The student will learn to develop IP addressing and create, and manage VPN's and VLANs. There are sixty-seven credits required to obtain the associate degree.

These courses will also prepare you to take the CompTIA A+ Certification and CompTIA Network+ Certification, which will validate your skills and competency as a networking administrator.  Some of the colleges that teach Computer Information Systems offer these certification exams.

Earning an Associate degree in Computer Information Systems requires taking courses in Introduction to Programming, Computer Application, Internet Technology, Computer applications and Information Literacy. The student will also be required to take Internet Marketing and E-Commerce as well as College Algebra.

Advanced PC Applications, HTML Coding, Internet Server Environment and Network Protocols and Internetworking are also required courses. The student will also take courses in Visual Basic, Introduction to Database Technology, Programming in Java, Structured System Analysis and Systems Design to complete the associate degree.

Written Communication, Mathematics and Logic, which teaches you problem solving techniques, and Introduction to Psychology and Sociology are also a requirement for the associate degree. Most schools will require some elective courses. However, every school is different. After completing the associate degree, some students will apply these credits to a bachelor's degree in Computer Science.

Career opportunities in Computer Information Systems will open up doors in Computer Programming, Computer Support Specialists, Computer Analysts and Network and Computer Systems Administrators. IT Professionals work with applications and complex operating systems as well as large infrastructures.
