The associate degree in computer networking prepares the individual for working on internet and protocol working, server operating systems, client operating systems and LAN design and cabling. The degree is for those that want to go into the field computer networking.

The student learns how to maintain, administer and install a client/server local area network. They also learn how to understand the programming languages such as Java, C++, and C. They will also familiarize themselves with connectivity between a WAN and LAN, UNIX operating system and networking fundamentals.

You will learn how to troubleshoot, install hardware and software, analyze processes and ideas, and develop an understanding for computer network strategy. You learn about how to manage a network security, develop IP addressing schemes and how to design and document networks.

In order to complete the associate degree in computer networking, you must complete four terms that take two years. The course may have different titles, but are the same. You will need to take Networking 1, Computer Concepts, Operating Systems Windows and Operating Systems Command. You also need to study Written Communication, Mathematics and Logic, Operating System Linux and Windows Server 1.

Other courses are Networking 2, Software Installation and troubleshooting, Windows Server 2, Networking 3, Network Administrator, Microcomputers Hardware and Economics. You also have to study Introduction to Psychology and Sociology, Networking 4, Network Design and Documentation, networking Applications and Installations, and Internet/Intranet Server Administration and Installation.  

After taking Netwroking1, you will have the basic understanding networking fundamentals. This first part of networking covers switches, routers, bridges and hubs, protocols, access methods, cabling systems, WAN and LAN topologies and OSI Reference Model.

Networking 2 teaches you the network standards and networking terminology. Networking 3 teaches virtual private networks, software and hardware firewalls and switching technology. Networking 4 concludes the series of networking courses and allows you the ability to work with emerging and current technology.

Earning a degree in computer networking prepares you for so many exciting careers. You will need to keep on top of the changing technology by attending seminars and updating your knowledge with refresher courses as technology changes.

After obtaining an associate degree in computer networking, you can work in any field pertaining to the maintenance and operation of a network. You can work as a Network Administrator, PC/network analyst, Network Support Specialist, Network Technician or a PC Support Specialist. Networking Administrators can work in any company keeping the infrastructures of the company running.
