An associate degree in nursing is a reward career choice. A nursing career opens many doors in the healthcare industry. The nurse works well under pressure and can assess injuries and illnesses of patients. Earning an associate degree in nursing will teach the student how to follow regulatory, ethical and legal frameworks. The student learns the art of effective communication and is able to assess the health of groups, families and individuals. You will also be able to make clinical decisions pertaining to accurate and safe nursing care.
You will learn to provide care to a diverse population, and learn how to restore and promote health. You also learn how to facilitate care programs in any health care setting. You will learn how to administer medications and update patients charts. In order to obtain the degree, a student is required to have CPR training and certification, CNA competency prior to starting the nursing degree and be able to lift up to fifty pounds, bend, twist and stand.
To earn the associate degree in nursing you must take General Anatomy and Physiology, Developmental Psychology, Nursing Fundamentals, Nursing Pharmacology, Nursing Skills and Introduction to Clinical Practice as well as Written Communication. You must also take Advanced Anatomy and Physiology, Nursing Health Alterations, Nursing Health Promotion, Introduction to Clinical Care Management, Clinical Care Across Life span and Oral/Interpersonal Communications.
The student will also study Microbiology, Nursing Advanced Skills, Complex Health Alternatives, Interned Clinical Practice, Mental Health Communication and Introduction to Psychology. Other courses are Advanced Clinical Practice, Nursing Clinical Transition, Complex Health Alternatives 2, Management and Professional Concepts and Introduction to Sociology.
Before obtaining the completed degree, you will have to pass the NCLEX-RN exam. The course you take will prepare you for the exam and teach you everything you need to know in order to pass. Some states may have different requirements and exams that need to be taken, but any degree course you take for nursing will prepare you for any of these exams.
Before starting the associate degree in nursing, you must pass a background check and prepare an Essay pertaining as to why you want to be a nurse. Although this is standard, not all colleges require this before obtaining a degree.
Careers in Nursing
A career in nursing after obtaining the associate degree prepares you for a position to work in a clinic, healthcare agency, hospitals, nursing homes and in businesses that have healthcare positions onsite. You could also work as a private nurse or in schools where they have onsite nurses.
You will easily find work in the healthcare field, as there is always a need for skilled nurses in specific areas of hospitals and other healthcare centers.
