Associate Degree in Health Science
The associate degree in health science prepares you for a rewarding career in many different fields. There is a need for health professionals around the world. Not only can you work in healthcare settings, you can work in the wellness industries. This degree will give you a board education, but emphasis is on pathophysiology, nutrition, chemistry, physiology and anatomy.

The associate degree in health science will prepare you for a career in the health field or to further your education in one of the many health related fields. The degree will teach you how to deal and understand people and how to focus on the science and mathematics studies needed to pursue a nursing degree. You will learn reasoning skills that are needed to work in a health profession.

There are some general education courses that are required for the associate degree in health sciences that include Introduction to Psychology, Nutrition, Introduction to Microbiology, Biomedical, Principles of Public Speaking, and Introduction to Chemistry. However, every college is different and has different titles or courses that are required.

You also have to take Medical Terminology, Human Anatomy/Human Physiology, Introduction to Pathophysiology, Case Studies in Health Science, Common Medicines and Biocalculations for Health Professionals. You also have to take Introduction to Pharmacology, Introduction to Sociology.

Medical Terminology will teach you the appropriate terms used to describe the special senses, lymphatic systems, cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, nervous, endocrine, respiratory, reproductive, and urinary and digestive systems. Understanding medical terminology is important for any health related career.

Microbiology will teach you relationship and growth between microorganisms and humans. The course deals with host defense mechanisms, epidemiology and disease production. It also shows you the connection between microbes in biotechnology, industry and the environment.

Human Anatomy/Human Physiology will teach you about both physiology and anatomy and how they relate to health science. You will learn how to use the basic concepts of the physiology and anatomy to make decisions and how to communicate with patients and colleagues.

Some colleges have different requirements, which could include Pre-Hospital Trauma, Pharmacy Federal Law for Working Pharmacy Technicians and Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals. These courses may only be required if you tailor your degree to a certain field.

Careers in Health Science
After earning your degree in health science, you will be ready for a position in nutrition, medical transcription, medical office management, medical assistant, health and wellness, and health science technology. You could also tailor your degree to prepare you for a position as a surgical tech, practical nurse, pharmacy tech or medical and coding specialist.

Some graduates work in fields such as occupational therapy assistant, sports medicine, medical lab tech, and radiologic tech and massage therapy. There are many fields related to healthcare and wellness that a graduate could work in after completing this degree.
