An associate degree in Hotel & Hospitality Management will prepare the student for a career in management in the hotel and hospitality industry. The student learns about applications needed to supervise and manage employment in a lodging and food facility. The hotel and management skills are also used for hospitality operations in entertainment facilities, conference centers and for front office managers.
Hotel management is a upper level position that does require a degree of confidence and interpersonal skills. The manager supervises employees and inventory of the hotel. The ability to work without supervision and understand the functions of the hotel or other hospitality establishments is important. You will learn this with every course that you take.
The student learns about hospitality management and how to demonstrate the principles in a business. You learn a high level of customer service and marketing techniques that are associated with hotel and hospitality management. You will learn to interpret and recognize legal issues as well as how to use costing and accounting skills to make the business profitable. After you complete the associate degree, you will show leadership and management skills needed to work in a diverse hospitality environment.
Most schools require sixty-seven credits to receive the associate degree in Hotel and Hospitality Management. There are some electives required by some schools, but every school has different requirements.
Earning an associated degree requires the student to take Introduction to Hotel and Hospitality Management, Sanitation for Food Service, Marketing Tourism and Hospitality, Customer Service and Written Communication. The student will also study Front Office Procedures and Management, Hospitality Law, Food and Beverage Operations, Oral and Interpersonal Communication and Business Etiquette.
Other courses required are Issues in Hotel and Hospitality, Economics, Housekeeping Management and Cost Control. You will also take Introduction to Psychology, Supervision and Hospitality Accounting. After completing these courses, you will be ready for a career in Hotel and Hospitality Management as well as other opportunities.

Career opportunities in hotel and hospitality management prepare you for a position as a general manager, executive housekeeper, front office manager, food and beverage manager and guest service manager. You can work in hotels, resorts and other places that have lodging and food services.
